Welcome to Quirky Publishing and Productions
Welcome to Quirky Publishing and Productions, Katie Gallanti and Trevor Watson's print & digital publishing,
productions and services company, a business umbrella under which many of
our creative projects are housed, from Trevor's magazines, creative writing, art, publishing and graphic design services
to Katie's metaphysical teachings, personal growth consultations, metaphysical and current affairs blogs, poetry, web design and photography.
A few words from Trevor:
and so a quirky venture begins ...
It was in the early eighties when I embarked on my journey into the world of publishing and design. Two London based magazines, i-D and The Face,
had emerged and were turning the world of design, journalism and publishing upside-down. They sought to show what was happening in the world of music
and style, direct from the street . . . they definitely started it all for me!
Cancelling a prior engagement to start a course in design at Preston Polytechnic, I decided to move to America instead. Adopting the moniker
'plagiarism saves time', I soon began a series of projects inspired by the latests art and style trends of home. Armed with a bundle of 12" singles, thought I'd give it a shot at DJ-ing.
And it is so that my first venture Club i-D came to light, probably the first 'underground' roving nightclub in San Diego. All manner of eclectic sorts began showing up . . . what a
photo opportunity. Through this, Revolt In Style was formed, an eight page tabloid consisting mainly of snap shots of the weird and wonderful
punters at Club i-D. Rub-down Letraset, experimental graphics, and adhoc journalism . . . a pop art manual of the scene was born. Through time
Revolt In Style morphed into a magazine rather than a paper and became a revered monthly publication, always ahead of its time in setting the
tone for art and alternative culture here in sunny Southern California.
Eventually, after 11 happy years, the Revolt adventure came to an end for me and was passed on to other stewards. But my love affair with print
and publishing continued on. Other publishing ventures appeared - The Red Journal, Next Magazine,Vision Magazine. As I grew and evolved, so did
my interests. Through my experience at Vision Magazine I was introduced to sweat lodges, walking on coals (ouch), peace circles and metaphysical
living and, although a good glass of wine never left my hand, I began to feel more interested in ideas of community, mine being here in Ocean
Beach, CA, know to the locals as OB, and from which the idea of the OB Chronicle was inspired. Gradually some of the craziness of the night was replaced by an interest in
things holistic and social concerns, although the creativity, art and the stylish eclectic madness were never too far behind, as I remain fundamentally,
an artist.
The obvious next step was to create a company that could house all of these publishing interests and other projects in one place. What better name
than Quirky, as a unifying roof under which all of these aspect of fringe culture, art, design, publishing, social awareness and personal growth
could co-exist. And I am not venturing in this alone. My trusted friend and visionary Katie Gallanti is very much my partner in crime in the birthing of this new idea
and will be assisting this old fashioned print man in
transitioning into becoming a publisher of the digital age, as well as contributing her metaphysical knowledge and fair share of projects to this venture.
And both us will be offering you a variety of services ranging from graphic and web design to personal growth and image consulting.
Check each one of our pages to see what we are individually bringing to the table. Between the two of us, we are covering a large area of the map, so to speak,
and this is only the beginning. . . look us up regularly to keep abreast of a new exciting wave of change . . .
